Contents of classes
1. Class #1

We will not be able to finish all of the sewing in our class time and homework will be required. Please make every effort to complete the stage we are working on before the next class.

Materials:
Sewing machine in good working order with a ¼” foot and new needles (sizes 80/12 and 90/14)
Rotary cutter and rulers (most useful are 6” x 24” and 12 ½” square (cutting mat for home)
Basic thread in a neutral color or match your fabric (recommend 50 wt.)
Small scissors to snip threads, pins, seam ripper
Quilt basting spray (preferred) or quilters safety pins
Removable marking pen/pencil or chalk
Fabric for your quilt:
1/2 yard each of 5 fabrics for blocks (or 25, 2 ½” strips)
½ yard for binding
Additional fabric if you want a border ½ to 1 yard
Backing fabric – we will discuss the size needed (minimum 4” bigger, each direction, than quilt top)
Batting same size as backing
You can choose to prewash your fabric before class but it is not necessary. The main reason to do
this is because some fabrics can bleed dye (especially reds) or if it shrinks it will do so before sewing.
Wash light and dark colors separately and use color catchers. You may wash by hand or machine,
using gently cycle, then machine dry and iron fabric before class.
